The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) passed its 2024 budget on Wednesday, Jan. 31, using reserves to keep the levy increase charged to municipalities within the district to under 3 per cent — a stated goal of its finance committee.

The 2024 budget represents a municipal levy increase of $674,772 (2.99 per cent) with an increase in the overall budget of $4,542,700 from $90,232,483 in 2023 to $94,775,183 in 2024.

The budget maintains services at the 2023 level, including any service changes that the Board approved in 2023. Some of the significant changes from the 2023 budget include an increase in the Homelessness Prevention Program funding and Paramedic Services deployment changes, which include enhanced service to Temagami, Mattawa and South Algonquin.

“The data shows that there is an increased need for paramedic services in Temagami, Mattawa and South Algonquin and this budget will help to provide these enhanced services,” says Board Chair Mark King.

The Nipissing District Housing Corporation (NDHC) budget was also passed as part of the overall budget. The NDHC operating and capital funding provided by the DNSSAB is incorporated within the overall DNSSAB Housing Services budget.
