Last Thursday, the North Bay Lions Club visited the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) to present a donation of $10,000 to support NBRHC’s Dementia-Friendly Neighbourhoods Project.

Inspired by projects in Europe and British Columbia, the Dementia-Friendly Neighbourhoods Project is creating comforting, familiar, and safe 'neighbourhoods' within several units at NBRHC.

"It's about creating a place that's supportive of everybody. Where there's natural enrichment to the walls, where every door is familiar, and can help you feel safe and at home,” says Dr. Rhea Galbraith.

Community donations help implement design changes, incorporate sensory enhancements and increase patient safety, significantly improving the quality of life for individuals with dementia. "This program is making a meaningful difference in the lives of those navigating the complexities of dementia," says a news release.

"Over the years, the North Bay Lions Club has shown unwavering support for our hospital, playing a pivotal role in advancing local healthcare. Their generosity has touched countless areas, including Ophthalmology, Cancer Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Women's and Children’s Health, and much more."

"With this donation, North Bay Lions Club has supported our community’s healthcare over the past 25 years, with nearly $300,000 toward advanced medical equipment," said Tammy Morison, President of the Foundation.
