A well-known North Bay community member has been recognized for her efforts.
METRO Inc. each year honours five exceptional community members who consistently go above and beyond. Debbie Marson, the executive director of the North Bay Food Bank is one of the five recognized.
Marson is a dedicated volunteer turned employee at the North Bay Food Bank. For more than five years, she has worked to help meet growing community needs.
In 2024, she helped serve over 4,800 households helping 6,100 adults and 2,600 children. As the need grows, she has doubled down on helping as many families as possible.
“Every chance I get, I tell the story of the great need in the North Bay Community and how the Food Bank helps thousands of families each year,” said Marson in a release. “The greatest reward in my life is giving back to my community.”
Marson will be awarded 1 million Moi reward points at a local grocery store. The points are worth approximately $8,000 in groceries from Metro or Food Basics.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to recognize and reward individuals who go above and beyond to give back to their communities,” said Alain Tadros, Chief Marketing Officer at METRO.
“With 1 million Moi points, we hope to honour their generosity and inspire others to make a positive impact as well. It's a small way for us to show our appreciation for their incredible contributions.”
Mark Deacon, chair of the North Bay Food Bank board of directors was thrilled to find out about her random nomination.
"Although this award has been awarded to Debbie personally, Debbie has decided to give half of her winnings to the North Bay Food Bank," said Deacon in an email.
Additionally Deacon says Metro/Food Basics will be making a donation to the North Bay Food Bank as a way to further recognize Debbie’s work.
