David Allen Chevrier was last seen on June 23rd, 1994 wearing a black t-shirt and grey track pants, known to talk to himself and squints. He has a dark complexion and is about 6 foot tall, 160 pounds with brown eyes, black hair and sported a crew cut hair style. Photo submitted.

Pauline Chevrier shudders and cringes every time she hears or sees a story about human remains being found in the North Bay area.

Thats’ because on June 23rd, 1994 she found out her brother David Allen Chevrier went missing.

Since that day more than 20 years ago, David has never been seen again.

“I don’t like to say it but I kind of get the feeling someone murdered him,” stated his 45-year-old sister Pauline, who now resides in Toronto and lives on disability.

David Allen Chevrier, suffers from schizophrenia and operates at the level of a three to five-year-old due to a brain injury he suffered in a car accident. He was 25 years old at the time of his disappearance.  Police say he was last seen leaving his McIntyre street group home around 4 p.m. that day allegedly en route to the Centre of Friends in downtown North Bay.

Detective Constable Dave Wilson is the North Bay Police Service lead investigator into the missing persons case.

“There are various locations he could have attended, however he didn’t show up so for the most part that’s the main last sighting of him when he left back in June and walked out at 4 p.m.,” said Wilson about the cold case.

“There were some potential sightings, a number members of the public have contacted us with various sightings, there may have been a sighting - at least a possibility of a sighting - near the government dock area.  However, besides that there isn’t anything you could necessarily confirm that it was him,” added Wilson who noted Chevrier was known as a wanderer.

Pauline claims the fact that her brother was poor, mentally ill and native dropped him down on the priority list.

Regardless, she wanted to come forward to help find a break in the case because she believes somebody must know something about his disappearance.

“I will never give up searching for him and I am trying to do everything now in my best ability because back when he went missing I was having a lot of problems myself so that’s why I never did anything, so now that I’m getting better I want to do everything and anything to try to find him. I know that somebody knows something,” she said.

Wilson says they aren’t giving up on this case either.

“We are constantly trying to appease the families and unfortunately for them all of the information can’t always be released,” stated Wilson.

“There’s not much you can do as time goes on unless you do get leads or there’s someone that comes up with information. Unfortunately a lot of the investigative work on our end is trying to match up our missing persons with unidentified remains across Ontario and Canada.”

Pauline says time has not healed any of her wounds. The only thing that will help her now is finding out what happened to her brother.

“I just want to say that I love my brother and I am praying for one day for this to be solved.  Most days I can deal with it but other days it just tears me apart,” she said.

If anyone has a lead on this case please contact the North Bay Police Service at (705) 497-5555 and ask for Detective Constable Dave Wilson.
