Family and friends of Leslie Piekarski, a former student of Renee’s Dance Connection, say that she dancing her way to the top of the Ontario university hip-hop circuit.
Piekarski is in her first year of honours kinesiology at McMaster University, Hamilton, is a member of Mac’s winning dance team ‘the Firm’. The team was created especially for ‘OUCH’ (Ontario University Competition for hip-hop) and the team is comprised of 13 members that were put through an intense audition process by Blaze entertainment and other dance personnel.
The selected elite dancers range from graduate students to first year undergrads.
Piekarski and her team took first place over 11 participating universities at the OUCH competition held November 18th at the University of Waterloo. The winning number is a 4-minute piece choreographed by the students and its theme was 'organized crime'. The number included styles from hip-hop, reggae, crump and break dancing.
Piekarski will receive a ‘Be Discovered’ scholarship to attend a ‘Be Discovered’ Hip-Hop workshop in 2007.
