Jamie Reid-Bernardi decided to go out on her maternity leave in style.
She got her hair cut.
But this was nothing done by a stylist, it was done with a dull set of scissors in front of a bunch of her co-workers at Union Gas.
Reid-Bernardi was donating her hair and raised more than $700 to go towards the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation.
“It is always something that I wanted to do, it’s a great time to grow out my hair and to donate it to someone because you have better hair apparently when you are pregnant, that’s what I have heard,” said Reid-Bernardi.
“That is why I decided to do it, I always wanted to do it and I am happy I found a way to do it.”
Caitlin Daniel also took part in the hair cutting festivities. The foundation brought Caitlin along as she had called the foundation to see if she could donate her hair to the hospital. i
“So it was the first time we’ve had two young women donate their hair through another program but taking the opportunity to raise some funds for the hospital for cancer care so that we can have the best possible cancer care close to home,” noted Tammy Morison, President and CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation.
Reid-Bernardi says her hair has not been this short since she was in grade one or two. Daniel says her hair has not been this short in close to eight years.
“I know I could have done it myself through the Pantene program which the Canadian Cancer Society endorses, that was part of it, but I guess I did not want my hair to just go into the trash because I had a lot of it and it was important to me that it was going somewhere where people were going to benefit from it and that is to help with cancer care,” said Daniel.
