North Bay is alive with THE SOUND OF MUSIC! Celebrate the start of the Christmas season with Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre's production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. More than a hit show or cultural phenomenon, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is a rarity that has touched the hearts of its audiences since the very beginning.

Celebrate the season with the captivating von Trapp family and share the power of a beautiful melody that healed the spirit and provided an escape from a world edging towards war. More than a theatrical experience, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is a cherished memory, filled with laughter, tears, and of course, some of the most unforgettable music ever written.

Directed by Allan MacAskill, with musical and vocal direction from Karen Schiavone-Fava and choreography by Jocelyn Bell, 65 actors, including some very talented children have been rehearsing since September to bring this beloved musical to life.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC is a true story of the postulant Maria Rainer (played by Kelsey Scheer) set in Salzburg, Austria in the late 1930's. Maria proves too high-spirited for the religious life and is sent to serve as governess for the seven children of the widowed Captain von Trapp (played by Jonathan Pride). Maria's rapport with the von Trapp children, along with her generosity and spirit, gradually capture the heart of the stern Captain, and they are soon married. When they return from their honeymoon they discover that the Nazis have invaded Austria and have demanded the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The finale illustrates the family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland and freedom.

In addition to the timeless Rodgers & Hammerstein songs 'My Favorite things, Do Re Mi, Climb Every Mountain and Edelweiss,' this stage production also features two songs written by Richard Rodgers for the film version, 'I Have Confidence and Something Good.'

Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre is thrilled to have cameo appearances by; Colin Vickers, Kelly Brown, Vince Gagne and Tim Collins from The Near North District School Board. As well cameo appearances by; Jack Jones, dancing in the ballroom scene, Judy Koziol, playing a concert contestant and Dave Saad, playing The Bishop, round out the cast.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC hits the stage at The Capitol Centre from November 29th - December 3rd. Tickets are $15.00 and are available at The Capitol Centre box office, Creative Learning (181 Main Street) or by calling Dreamcoat at 472-1590.
