A tractor-trailer was pulled from the highway yesterday and its 25-year-old Waterloo driver was charged with operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle.

It happened shortly before 8 a.m. when the North Bay OPP responded to a complaint of a tractor-trailer operating with a broken axle and bald tires on Highway 17 in Mattawa.

"Police appreciate the public's observations and quick response to have the vehicle safely pulled off the highway in order to ensure the safety of all road users," said Constable Renee Taylor. "The vehicle was inspected in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and charges have been laid."
