Collision with utility pole results in impaired charges

MARKSTAY-WARREN, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police arrested and charged the driver with impaired offences after investigating a single motor vehicle collision.

On July 2, 2024, shortly before 11 p.m., members from the Nipissing West OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a single motor vehicle collision with a utility pole, on Ratter Lake Road.

EMS assessed the lone driver for minor injuries, who was then arrested for impaired driving and transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Anthony Renaud, 49, from Markstay-Warren was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 1, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
