Clearer images shared in dealership test drive truck theft

'The theft has been reported to the OPP but if anyone has any info, we'd love to hear from you'

Tremblay Chevrolet Buick GM in Sturgeon Falls has released more security photos of a man they believe is responsible for a test drive turned truck theft at the dealership on Monday morning.

A man, who claimed to be Scott King, came into his dealership to test drive a 2020 GMC Sierra HD Denali Crew Cab and never came back.

"He was so nonchalant, he does not come in trying to hide anything," said Michael Tremblay, the dealership owner.

Tremblay says the man came in with a story that seemed legit. He told them he totalled his vehicle two weeks ago and got an insurance settlement.

The dealership took his driver's license, which ended up being fake, and his phone number. The man wanted to bring the truck across the street to the Comfort Inn hotel he and his boss were staying at.

The man never returned with the truck and Tremblay called police.

The dealership immediately shared a photo of the man from the security camera along with photos of the truck on social media. Tremblay says the post was shared more than 1,700 times and he has gotten multiple leads from friends and anonymous callers to the dealership.

The OPP told BayToday.ca they are still investigating.

"At this time there are no leads to the ID of the person," stated P/C Rob Lewis, OPP West Nipissing media relations officer in an email.

Tremblay and the Ontario Provincial Police describe the person of interest as:

  • Heavy build
  • 250-280 lbs.
  • 6'0" tall
  • Wearing a dark sweater and toque, with an orange construction coat and dark construction pants and boots.

If anyone has any information regarding this investigation, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online at www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
