The OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau has laid charges after a North Bay woman falsely tried to claim a huge lottery prize.
OLG was suspicious of the win and started an investigation.
On July 17 members of the Investigation and Enforcement Bureau, attached to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario received information from OLG Corporate Investigations concerning a ticket claim submitted for a $70 million dollar Lotto Max prize.
The investigation resulted in an arrest and Criminal Code charges.
Sonya Deering, 33 of North Bay, is charged with:
- Attempted fraud over $5,000
- Forgery
- Utter a forged document
Deering has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay at a later date.
