The power of recycling is paying off for the City of North Bay,

It's been named by Call2Recycle Canada, as a 2023 "Leader in Sustainability."

The award is granted each year to organizations that display "exceptional commitment to battery recycling." This is the second time in as many years that the City has earned this distinction.

In 2021, North Bay was recognized as one of the program’s top-performing partners for the collection of 6,573 kilograms (14,490 lbs) of household batteries. In 2023, the City more than doubled that figure, collecting 13,352 kilograms (29,436 lbs) of batteries, contributing to a record-breaking year at Call2Recycle with six million kilograms of batteries diverted from Canadian landfills.

"This partnership speaks to a real commitment to sustainability and makes a significant difference,” said Joe Zenobio, President of Call2Recycle Canada. “The support we receive from the City of North Bay helps us achieve our mission of maximizing battery diversion from the waste stream, which in turn protects wildlife, the environment and our communities.”
