City gas stations running dry

It's a distribution issue say experts

If you need gas, fill up quickly as local stations are running dry.

It's blamed on tankers unable to refill due to bad road conditions.

Sunday, a number of stations put zeros up on their signs and put cones around their pumps to let customers know there was no gas to be had.

Dan McTeague, an analyst at GasBuddy calls it a distribution issue, with the record cold temperatures and snowfall a big obstacle to the trucks that deliver the fuel.

Distribution tanker trucks fill up, then make their way to individual gas stations pumping up to 80,000 litres of fuel into the underground tanks.

Gas shortages have also been reported in southern Ontario, including Toronto and Midland.

McTeague said that there is no way to plan for these types of shortages.

Low gas prices have also had an effect, producing a "run" on fuel.

One station operator, when asked if the shortage would end in North Bay in the next couple of days answered, "Don't count on it."
