Cindy Ciancio admits she has no experience in politics but she believes she has the skills to be a contributing member of North Bay City Council.

Ciancio filed her nomination papers to run for city council on Friday becoming the 17th candidate to run for the 10 available seats.  She is also the fourth female to file.

Ciancio, who ran for council in the 2014 election, has worked for the Low Income People Involvement of Nipissing (LIPI) for more than 20 years.

“I have a vested interest in the City of North Bay as I was born and raised  here and all of my siblings still reside in the city,” she stated to BayToday.ca

“I love the City of North Bay and with everyone working together we can make North Bay an even better place to live.

“I would like to be a member of the City Council who increases transparency which goes hand-in-hand with accountability thus restoring the credibility of City Council.  This, in turn, would help to restore the trust of the people in City Hall,” she continued.

She would like to be part of a city council that brings a balanced budget.

“I believe that everyone has to live within their means in order to avoid financial hardships,” she said.

“This also applies to businesses, organizations, and government.  Other municipalities do it and so can North Bay.  I too believe that the city needs to be looked at as a business.  Find ways of increasing the city funds without raising taxes.  Maybe in the future, we could look at lowering the taxes.”

She wants to see the downtown revitalized.

“It saddens me to see the comments about our downtown area,” she said.

“Having worked in the downtown for over 30 years I do understand their concerns.   I would like to be a member of City Council who helps to improve the health of the people and the community and make downtown a place where all people want to visit, work, and live.”

Mayoral, Council and school board trustees have until 2 p.m. this Friday, July 27th to file their nomination papers.

The fall municipal election will take place on October 22nd.
