A group of grade 7 students at Chippewa Secondary School were sent in early during recess on Wednesday due to an unknown individual lurking in the school yard.

Chippewa Secondary School issued a statement on the incident.

"We wish to inform you that the Grade 7 classes had to come in early from recess today following notification that there was an unknown person on the yard," Chippewa administration stated.

"Administrators exercised an overabundance of caution by bringing the students in until the person could be identified. We appreciate the support of the North Bay Police Services and praise our students for bringing this unknown person to the staff's attention.”

The North Bay Police confirmed the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  The police responded to the call of a suspicious person near Chippewa Secondary School.

"Police attended the area, but did not immediately locate an individual matching the description provided," said David Woolley, corporate communications officer with the North Bay Police Service.

"A short time later, a 62-year-old male matching the description provided was located in the area of Highway 17 and Trout Lake Road," Woolley stated.

Police say the male was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants.
