Yesterday at 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay, Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Colleen Halpin relinquished her appointment as the 22 Wing Chief Warrant Officer to CWO John Short.
“On behalf of the men and women at 22 Wing I thank CWO Halpin for her service as wing chief and her immeasurable counsel. I wish her well in her new post in Ottawa as the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Group CWO, the first woman to hold the position," said Col. Smith.
“I welcome you to 22 Wing, Chief Short. I am certain you will find your work as wing chief both fulfilling and challenging and I look to you to build a strong Command Team, taking the wing to the next level."
“It is a true honour to accept this Wing Chief Warrant Officer’s appointment; I am certainly looking forward to serving with all of the personnel at 22 Wing and I am pleased to have the opportunity to forge new relationships within the communities of North Bay and surrounding areas,” replied Short.
The Wing Chief Warrant Officer is the highest ranking non-commissioned member (NCM) on the base, who directly advises the Wing Commander on issues pertaining to NCMs.
The Wing Chief Warrant Officer provides counsel, direction and guidance to the leadership when making decisions affecting the morale and discipline while achieving a balance between the mission, morale and welfare of military members and their families.
