'Careless disposal' of an incense stick causes fire

Firefighters extinguished what was left of the blaze and ventilated the home of the Carbon Monoxide that was created by the fire

Deputy Chief Greg Saunders says the "careless disposal of an incense stick" was to blame for a fire at 98 Belleview Cres. last night.

Just after 7 p.m. firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the attached garage of the home.

"It had largely been extinguished by the resident before the arrival of firefighting personnel," says Saunders "Firefighters extinguished what was left of the blaze and ventilated the home of the carbon monoxide that was created by the fire."

The residents had been alerted to the danger by properly maintained and properly located smoke alarms.  Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

"This fire could have been much worse without the early notification of the danger by the working smoke alarm," explained Saunders.
