The Canadian Cancer Society admits April is an important month for the organization.
“This month is huge, its big, it is national people are wearing their daffodils the awareness aspect is huge people need to know there is support for them out there and they are not fighting alone,” said Gil Pharand, Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society North Bay & District Unit.
The organization rolled out a handful of events that will take place in April including Paint the Downtown Yellow and Paint Your Workplace Yellow campaigns.
“We have a paint to work day and paint downtown initiative we ask businesses to join in and show their support by wearing yellow and doing up their business in yellow, holding small fundraiser's and really anything that can raise a fund, and raise a bit of awareness,” said Pharand.
Daffodil pins will also be sold across the city from March 31st to April 17th, while real daffodils will be sold at Independent Grocer’s to help the cause.
Pharand says the money raised goes to many different Cancer related initiatives.
“The money goes to our research, our support services and everything goes towards people fighting cancer,” said Pharand.
“Transportation is one of our biggest services locally where we provide volunteer driven rides for people with cancer appointments. Research is a big aspect it touches everyone who is involved with cancer there is some research being done, by the best researchers in Canada although we don’t have the research here in North Bay the effects of it we see happen all the time it truly is important.”
