Police have a pair of people in jail after a cruiser equipped with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition camera alerted an officer that a vehicle passing by was stolen.

It happened last night at approximately 9 p.m. when an OPP officer was patrolling highway 17 in North Bay.

Police stopped the vehicle on Champlain Court but the occupants jumped out and fled.

A ground search began with the help of North Bay Police, Anishinabek Police, OPP Canine, and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT).

This morning two people were arrested that are believed to be responsible and connected to the theft of the vehicle.

OPP is continuing its investigation and is asking anybody with information regarding the people responsible for this theft to immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online at www.tipsubmit.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
