Callander, the Royal Bank ATM will stay

Closing on October 25, the Royal Bank has assured customers the cash machine will stay, with an upgrade

Callander, the Royal Bank’s bank machine will remain in town.

This past June, the Royal Bank announced it was closing its branch on Callander’s Main Street. The news caused a stir in the community, as many were not too pleased with driving to North Bay’s Airport & Stockdale Branch, which is consolidating the clients from the Callander location.

After 50 years in town, the bank is closing on October 25th. This past July, the bank held a community information session at the Callander Community Centre to talk with clients about the consolidation and to ease their transitions to a new branch.

One of the top questions asked that evening was whether the bank would still operate an automated teller machine (ATM) to facilitate Callander Royal Bank customers. At that time the bank did not know but have reached a conclusion – an ATM will remain.

So explained Lucie Caron, the Regional Director of Communications for the Royal Bank of Canada. She was at that July meeting and knew the bank machine was a big concern for local clients. She reached out to BayToday to let it be known the ATM is going to stay.

“As part of our commitment to our clients in Callander and the broader area,” Caron said, “I am very pleased to let you know that an RBC full-service ATM will remain at the branch location following the consolidation on October 25.”

Furthermore, “the RBC ATM will continue to be accessible to our clients every day, 24 hours a day,” she detailed, and as a bonus, the machine “will also dispense US Dollars,” an upgrade from the current ATM.

A business is taking over the bank’s current location, and the new operator “will dedicate space to the RBC ATM after they take over the premises,” Caron added. The name of the business moving into the soon-to-be former RBC has not been announced yet.
