Bonfield is primed for a Canada Day celebration to remember this Saturday. The fireworks are cancelled due to wildfire concerns, but they will be held at a future date. The day’s events take place outdoors, so hopefully the smoke cooperates. Otherwise, the day has a low chance of rain and a high of 27 degrees.
A good day to celebrate, and Bonfield is known to turn it up for our country’s special day. Much of the action occurs at Kaibuskong Park near the Bonfield Township Office at 524 Maple Road, near Railway Street.
“It’s nice to see all of the families out and enjoying a day out here in Bonfield,” Steve Featherstone said. Featherstone is a councillor, and sits on the recreation committee, which oversees Canada Day events. He also runs the Reptile Adventure Camp, and his booth at the park is always a popular spot to visit.
“And all of the members of council, including the mayor will be there as well,” he said. Indeed, at lunch, mayor and council are hosting a free barbeque, complete with cake.
A parade rolls through town at 11 a.m. and there will be games and activities throughout the day, including an axe throwing competition from 1 to 5 p.m. Caisse Populaire Alliance is hosting a horseshoe tournament at one, and at 4:15, the kids can marvel at The Magic of Christophe.
The Bonfield Lions Clubs are hosting a duck race fundraiser, and there will be live music throughout the day. Don & Friends, Bonita, Rick & Al Gagnon, The Hurricanes, Ghost Rider, and Back in Tyme & Guests are all scheduled to play.
