BB gun used in city assault

Police say that during the altercation, a firearm was pointed at the victim who was struck with a blunt object

North Bay police have arrested and charged two men with assault and  weapons offenses.

On Friday, September 24, officers responded to reports of someone threatening a victim with a firearm in front of an apartment in the 800-block of Cedar Street.

At approximately 9 o'clock that morning two men were reportedly involved in an argument with the victim, who is known to the accused.

Police say that during the altercation, a firearm was pointed at the victim who was struck with a blunt object.

"Members of the North Bay Police Service and the North Bay Police Service’s Emergency Response Team were dispatched and contained the scene in order to ensure public safety," says police spokesman David Woolley.  "Working with our community partners, nearby St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School and École Secondaire Catholique Algonquin were contacted and put into 'hold and secure' status for the safety of staff and students."

Two North Bay men were arrested a short time after the incident occurred, and a BB gun was discovered at the scene.

James Aloysius Deveaux, 22, is charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Five counts of Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

Prinz River Isaah Sutherland, 27 is charged with assault with a weapon.

Both are currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Police say security camera footage from the area helped in identifying and locating the men.
