A pair of well-known Battalion stars recently took part in a Under-20 Hockey Canada summer meeting.

Dom DiVincentiis and Ty Nelson were among the hopefuls looking to earn a spot on Team Canada's World Junior Team which will be traveling to Gothenburg, Sweden for the event during the Christmas holidays. DiVincentiis, was signed by the Winnipeg Jets in July after being selected in the 7th round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, while Nelson was taken in the third round by the Seattle Kraken and signed with the newest NHL franchise in May of 2023.

A total of 45 under-20 players from across Canada were selected to take part. The players were involved in virtual meetings that covered a variety of topics, including education on the Program of Excellence, sport safety presentations, short-term international competition preparation and meetings with the Hockey Canada management group.

"The discussions will allow participants to continue to evolve as high-performance athletes and utilize the strengths and experience of the Program of Excellence’s leadership," the Hockey Canada release stated.

Players will continue to be evaluated through the early portion of the 2023-24 season before Canadian rosters are named for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The last North Bay Battalion star to play for Team Canada and capture gold was Nick Paul back in 2015.
