The North Bay Battalion will be using one selection for the CHL Import Draft.

The Battalion will have the 30th selection overall in the first round of the 2021 Import Draft which begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Adam Dennis, Battalion GM, was able to select Matvei Petrov first overall in the 2020 CHL Import Draft and now with their other import Matvei Guskov signing to play in the KHL, the Troops will use one of their possible two spots.

Dennis is not hinting where he will go with his first pick.

"We are in a good spot, we are keeping our eyes wide open. I would say we are not stuck on a position but we have a couple of good names that we can add to our team for next year," said Dennis.

For the second summer in a row, the Import Draft will take place before the NHL Entry Draft. In a normal season, the CHL Import Draft takes place the week after the NHL Draft which gives CHL teams an indication whose NHL property they could be selecting.

"Typically when you have the NHL draft before you can call those NHL teams and there seems to be a want to get them over to North America to get used to the style so you typically have them in your back pocket," noted Dennis.

"With the draft being before, it is just one aspect that is not there. Everyone is on a level playing field so we will make it work but is a little bit of a factor and something we got used to for sure."
