It was a very quiet day for local North Bay Battalion eligible players in rounds 2 to 7 of the NHL Entry Draft which concluded Saturday afternoon in Dallas.
Centre Matthew Struthers and three other members of the North Bay Battalion were named in the final rankings issued in mid-April by the National Hockey League’s central scouting department in advance of the draft.
Struthers was ranked 124th for North American skaters while Justin Brazeau was ranked 142nd.
Left winger Luke Burghardt, who had a breakout season with the Troops after coming over in an off-season deal with the Guelph Storm, was rated 181st.
Christian Propp was rated No. 11 among 31 on a list of North American-based goaltenders for the seven-round draft.
However, there's a chance some may be invited to NHL prospects camps later this summer.
Mark Scheig, of The Hockey Writers, reports via Twitter that Matthew Struthers has been invited to play for the Carolina Hurricanes prospects team at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan in early September.
The Battalion confirmed to BayToday.ca another handful of NHL camp invites as well. Justin Brazeau has been invited to the San Jose Sharks camp, Luke Burghardt will be heading to the Vegas Golden Knights camp, Christian Propp will be heading to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Adam McMaster to Vancouver and goaltender Christian Purboo, who spent most of last year with the Oakville Blades of the OJHL, has been invited to both LA KIngs and Vancouver Canucks camps.
North Bay native Brady Lyle, who was traded by the Battalion to the Owen Sound Attack last fall, was not selected in the second year of his draft eligibility.
However, that could change on Thursday morning as the CHL conducts its annual import draft with the Battalion potentially able to make two selections in the draft.
