Barons defeat Bears to take NDA crown

Barons first NDA Senior Football title since 1981
It was a great evening for football at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex as the Algonquin Barons defeated the St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears 24-3.

With the victory, the Barons were crowned the 2021 NDA Champions for Senior High School, hours after the Junior team upset West Ferris 25-3.

The majority of the scoring was done in the first half, as Algonquin quarterback Andrew Robillard connected with James McGill for two touchdowns.

"I just want to say how awesome we played as a team it; is not about individuals it is about the Barons Football Team," noted McGill, the final MVP.

"I also want to thank the Scollard players and I want to thank our coaches and, thank my QB Robbie (Andrew Robillard) for a great game and a special shout  out to God, who has blessed me with the honour to play a sport I absolutely love."

The Barons defence was able to keep the Bears at bay, however, as they were only able to manage a field goal before the end of the half. It proved to be their only score of the game as Algonquin led 21-3 at half time.

The Barons added on with a field goal in the third quarter to go up 24-3 before a scoreless fourth quarter.

The victory is the first NDA Senior Football crown for the Barons program since way back in 1981.

With the victory, Algonquin will travel to Sault Ste Marie for NOSSA next Saturday. The Barons will take on the Korah Colts.
