Veteran city councillor Mac Bain was sworn in today as the newest member of the North Bay Police Services Board.

Bain, in his fourth term as a city councillor, replaces outgoing deputy mayor Sheldon Forgette who resigned last month stating he was “super busy” and unable to make all the meetings.

Bain says he is excited to be part of the police board.

“I’m glad to be here, past administrations and myself had some difference in opinions when the chief and the administration would come in front of council at budget time and so I’m looking forward to having a better understanding of how policing is changing in the province of Ontario and the city of North Bay and in Callander,” he said after his first meeting on Wednesday.

“I will look forward to that when budget time comes to sit down and have a better appreciation."

However, Bain realizes there will be some challenges.

“The province is changing the way they are doing policing, the police services act is opened and is changing so AMO has a position and moving forward to ensure that municipalities budget lines are being respected because of the impact they’ve had on property tax and I want to work with my fellow board members to ensure that the citizen’s of North Bay are getting the best policing that is available to them,” he added.
