A dedicated volunteer and advocate, Wayne Cormier has demonstrated unwavering commitment to Canadore College and to postsecondary education, earning him a distinguished 2008 Colleges Ontario William G. Davis Community Volunteer Award.

Cormier played a key role in establishing a positive relationship between Canadore College and the West Parry Sound region after Canadore took over the former Georgian College campus in 2004. Cormier was integral to the community consultation process, establishing the Canadore College Parry Sound Area Community Advisory Committee. He helped introduce the college to the communities, creating dialogues between the college and local organizations and businesses.

“Wayne’s ability to bring people together is inspiring,” said Canadore College President Barbara Taylor. “We couldn’t have hoped for a more selfless, dedicated and involved volunteer to work on our behalf.”

Cormier has also worked with numerous community organizations, and was recognized for his contributions by the Town of Parry Sound with an Order of Parry Sound in 2006. He continues to serve as chair of the area’s Community Advisory Committee.

The Colleges Ontario Awards were established in 2000 to recognize individuals, organizations and volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of Ontario’s college system.

The awards will be presented February 11, 2008 at the Colleges Ontario annual conference in London.
