OPP is investigating after two people were found dead inside a Kirkland Lake residence yesterday.

On August 8 shortly before 8 p.m.,  Kirkland Lake OPP officers attended a residence on Kirkpatrick Street for a well-being check. They found two deceased individuals, one male and one female.

Investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety.

It's the second double homicide in Kirkland Lake in two weeks. They investigated a different one on July 30.

Responding to a medical call that day, police found Amanda Lachapelle, 37, and Gabriel Marecki, 49, both of Kirkland Lake at a Woods Street residence. They were brought to the hospital, where both were pronounced dead. The case was originally said to be a death investigation and was later deemed a double murder.

This new investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time say police but residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence.

“If there was a concern towards the public safety we would put a bulletin out for that and we don’t believe there’s any concern for the public safety at this time,” said OPP Const. Rob Lewis.

The names of this week's victims have not been released yet. The release of names is usually after the post-mortem. The date for that isn't known yet.

Lewis couldn't say if the victims are known to the police.

Investigators are seeing if there are any links between the two homicides, he said.

"At this point, we can’t say yes or no to that, still early in the stages. And there are no arrests toward either one of them at this point,” he said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Anyone with video surveillance or dash cam video that may show any part of Kirkpatrick Street or the surrounding neighborhood, between Saturday August 5 and Tuesday August 8, to preserve the video and contact the Kirkland Lake Detachment.

If anyone has information regarding the investigation, they are asked to call the Kirkland Lake OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
