Another bloomin good business

The North Bay Blooms crew took a few moments out to recognise another group that is working hard to enhance the beauty of the city.

This week the City of North Bay staff was recognised for their efforts in keeping Downtown North Bay clean and colourful.

“Specifically last week about 129 planters were set up along Main Street, it makes the downtown look beautiful, it feels like spring really is here, and it happens because of a lot of planning, forethought and hard work by City Parks and Rec staff,” notes North Bay Blooms Chair Chris Mayne.

“Parks and Rec is an important part of the Community Services Department and it was great to see North Bay Blooms honour their work in beautification; particularly in the downtown ... staff works hard to fill and maintain our flower pots,” states City Councillor Mike Anthony who attended the Friday morning presentation.

“Many people think Parks and Rec is only about making sure the fields are open for sports and the garbage cans are emptied, but the beautification aspect is important too; that's why we have staff members who are also trained to be a landscape architect and horticulturalists.”

“And some of our summer students will be keeping things green when they maintain the plants downtown. We have a special industrial bicycle they can use when weather permits. It has a carriage attached to the back for carrying tools and garbage; so they won't be burning gas when they use the three wheel bicycle," he adds.

North Bay Blooms will also see the Chamber of Commerce clean up at Duchesnay Falls on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Canada Post kicks off the Front Yard Garden Contest nominations on Wednesday morning.
