After 104 years, cadet program still teaching city youth

Cadets learn to become active, responsible members of their communities

They've been around a while...204 Algonquin Army Cadet Corps has been a part of the North Bay community for 104 years with the aim to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, and promote physical fitness.

The Corps held an open house Tuesday at the Fort Chippewa Barracks, where members welcomed a number of youth who will get to participate in exciting programs.

"The new cadets will be getting started right away," said Second Lieutenant Chelsea Rioux, Deputy Commanding Officer/. "They will be given their uniforms and participating in the weekly activities including the upcoming range day and field training exercise."

Cadets learn to become active, responsible members of their communities.

"They make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis through important citizenship and community service activities," explains Rioux. "Cadets from 204 Algonquin Corps can be seen participating in the 22 Wing Welcome, Remembrance Day parade, Santa Clause parade, and much more."

The 204 Algonquin Army Cadets parade at the Barracks on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m.
