Mother Nature brought the snowmobiling fraternity some decent conditions this season, aside from earlier this week.
"Obviously with this recent mild weather, we had our trails closed for the whole region for a few days as that weather passed," stated Shawn Flindall, director of marketing with the North Bay Snowmobile Club.
"However, things seem to have tightened up overnight and some cooler weather in the evening going forward, so trails are back open for the most part."
Flindall urges the public to continue to check maps to see what trails are open in your area.
"Things are changing regularly and not everything is opened back up yet but things are opening back up after that mild weather," he said.
"The lakes are very slushy off packed trails so it is a time for caution for sure even water crossings on the trails were flooded during the period of mild weather so it is definitely a time where we need to use extra caution and spring time conditions. It is March, and the hot sun is beating down, so we need people to be very cautious."
Flindall realizes the season is coming to a close soon, but he reflects on a great season in 2024-25. He says many are thrilled with the conditions after the short nine-day season last year.
"It has been an outstanding season for snowmobiling and winter activities in general," he said.
"We have had consistent cold and we have had consistent snowfalls in between on a regular basis which is really what we need to keep trails groomed and keep grooming trails.
"We need the cold and the consistent snowfall that comes back on the trails, and that is what we have had this year."
