A local business, Gateway & Nick’s Place, has announced the winners of its 2024 Lion Heart Awards, celebrating extraordinary individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to youth and the wider community.

The awards honour unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes, often without recognition, to create a positive impact on the lives of young people, says a release.

The inspiration behind Nick’s Place For Us and the Lion Heart Awards stems from the legacy of Nicholas, whose life was tragically cut short by murder.

"Despite his battles with drug addiction and mental health issues rooted in early childhood, Nicholas was known for his large heart and deep care for those around him," says the release. "While his struggles often overshadowed his legacy, those who knew him remember Nicholas for his compassion and potential. The Lion Heart Awards aim to honour individuals who, like Nicholas, make profound yet often unnoticed contributions to their communities."
