To the editor:

Over the years, I've seen North Bay referred to as the "Hollywood of the North". This is due to the amount of films being shot here in recent times. But if any of those films were to ever be screened here, they would be done a disservice.

Galaxy Cinemas, the only full movie theatre in town is in rough shape. It has seven screening rooms. Three of those rooms have major sound problems, and two have lights which perpetually remain on during the movie, making for an abysmal film-going experience. And while our arts centre, the Capitol Centre, makes for a wonderful cinema, it only screens movies on rare occasions.

I have brought up these issues with the Galaxy staff multiple times, as well as reported to online customer service, but each time I go completely unheard.

Cinema is not a lesser art form. It is an important and impactful medium, and it deserves respect. More so, the movie-going audience deserves more respect. Paying top dollar for a compromised theatrical experience should not be accepted in this city, nor anywhere else.

North Bay and its people deserve better.
