LETTER: Disposing of a mattress is challenging in North Bay

'I see many pieces of furniture and mattresses sitting at the curb around our city'
2022 04 19 Mattress Dump (V. Vaillancourt)
Disposing of a mattress in this city is so challenging many people just dump them on the side of the road.

To the editor:

I recently had to dispose of a mattress and box spring.

Needless to say, not having a means to do so on my own, this became quite the challenge. I searched for companies and individuals who do this but the cost was prohibitive.

I reluctantly asked a friend with a truck to help me out and he graciously agreed.

We then were forced to take an over 50km round trip journey to our landfill site and still pay $50 to dispose of the items.

I see many pieces of furniture and mattresses sitting at the curb around our city. What becomes of them, I do not know. I do know what happens to these and other items in a neighbouring city though.

Please feel free to visit the link provided below if you want to know as well. Perhaps the best way to stop illegal dumping.
