To the Editor,
I am writing to raise an important question regarding the residency of our municipal Councillors and public representatives:
How many of them live outside the North Bay city limits? This inquiry is not merely about geographic boundaries; it speaks to the heart of representation and the empathy our leaders show toward the community they govern.
When Councillors reside in the rural countryside, it raises concerns about their connection to the city and its unique challenges. The realities of urban life—traffic, housing issues, and local businesses—are often vastly different from those in the outskirts. How can representatives fully understand and advocate for our city’s needs if they do not experience them firsthand?
Empathy is crucial in leadership. Those who live outside our city limits may struggle to appreciate the nuances of our community’s struggles and aspirations. Their decisions impact the lives of North Bay residents, yet they may lack a daily understanding of the issues we face. This disconnect can lead to policies that, while well-intentioned, may miss the mark entirely.
It is essential for our leaders to have a genuine stake in the community they serve. I urge fellow citizens to consider this issue seriously and to ask our representatives to reflect on their residency and its implications for their role in our city’s governance.
We deserve leaders who are invested in our community—not just in name but in daily life. Let’s advocate for a council that truly represents the voices and concerns of North Bay.
Sincerely,
Logan Solitar
