OPP: Two victims in Highway 63 fatal collision

Highway 63, which was closed in both directions between Highway 533 and Fish Hatchery Road for approximately seven hours, has now reopened

REDBRIDGE, Ont. — Witnesses to a fatal collision on Highway 63 Monday morning initially reported one victim in the incident and the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police has now confirmed a second victim.

Police investigated the fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 63 near Highway 533 as the highway remained closed most of Monday until opening late afternoon. The collision involved a commercial motor vehicle travelling northeast toward Quebec and a passenger vehicle headed southwest. Witnesses told BayToday a school bus headed toward North Bay was also in the vicinity of the collision but did not receive any damage.

The two occupants of the passenger vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene.

On January 13, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the North Bay OPP, District of Nipissing Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Phelps Fire Department responded to the collision.

The OPP's Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team (TIME) is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Highway 63, which was closed in both directions between Highway 533 and Fish Hatchery Road for approximately seven hours, has now reopened.
