Astorville man arrested after theft at local cannabis store and bong attack

North Bay police have arrested an Astorville man and charged him with theft and assault with a weapon.

At 7 p.m. on January 25, police responded to a theft call at a cannabis store on Cassells Street.

The thief had stolen a glass water pipe, commonly referred to as a bong, and fled.

A bystander outside the business tried to stop the thief but the assailant assaulted him by hitting him with the stolen bong.

The victim was able to restrain the man until police arrived and made an arrest. A search by police found 3 grams of Fentanyl.

Michael Weagant, 38, of Astorville is charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance

Weagant was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on March 4.
