All three mayoral candidates will attend a debate night next Wednesday says North Bay Pride Communications Director Jason Maclennan.
“You are probably feeling the fatigue of politics right now and it's frustrating because many of us do not feel heard," says Maclennan in a news release. "Yet politics affects everything you do, from paying taxes to healthcare, to housing to jobs and so forth. When it is time to vote it is more important than many realize.”
The three candidates for mayor of North Bay include Leslie McVeety, Peter Chirico and Johanne Brousseau.
“It is amazing because the 2SLGBTQ+ in the community in North Bay could directly change the outcome of the local election for mayor and city council, they just need to show up and vote for what is good for them," added Maclennan. "We have the numbers in North Bay, we all want better, and we know what is good for the queer community is good for everyone."
“North Bay Pride is a rare pride in Canada because we have not been afraid to tackle politics in what we do," said Jocelyn Green, CEO of North Bay Pride.
Unlike other prides, we set out to make our politicians accountable, work on having debates where people get to ask the questions that matter to them. Our debates are just not the same old questions with the same old answers with the same old audiences. Our debates are about communities because what communities need and want are usually very different from what politicians seem to think we need."
North Bay Pride Mayoral Debate is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday September 14.
You can see it live through Facebook or attend in person at 150 First Ave West, 2nd Floor.
The release says the event will be hosted and moderated by local drag performer “The Queen of Politics, Geri Atrick.”
