Powassan’s loss is Mattawa’s gain as the best little festival around, the Smoke ‘N’ Spurs Festival, moves to Mattawa Ontario this year.

Smoke ‘N’ Spurs, which started in 2013 and is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, is happening this year on Labour Day weekend, August 30, 31, and September 1, at 60 Neault Road in Mattawa.

“This is a really family-oriented festival which has something for everyone,” said festival spokesperson Jess Knowlton. “The ‘Smoke’ comes from the show n shine, mud bogs, and truck and tractor pulls, where the ‘Spurs’ comes from the rawhide rodeo and our other equestrian events…so there really is something for everyone!”

Knowlton also added that there is onsite camping, a fantastic Kids Zone with inflatables, a reptile camp experience, and an entire Vendor Village with artisanal items, food, and a licensed bar area on site.

“We are also proud to present top quality musical entertainment both Friday and Saturday night,” said Knowlton. “Friday night, Mystic Highway, a CCR tribute band, will be playing at 8:30, followed by everyone’s favourite, Dry County, at 10:15.”

Knowlton added, “Saturday night, the music gets underway at 6:45 with Rebekah Stevens, followed by Ty Baynton, Dan Davidson, and then our final act, at 11 p.m., Jojo Mason. There is going to be incredible music all weekend long!”

The Pro Riders FMX are also going to be at Smoke ‘N’ Spurs, promising thrills, chills, and spills for the audience on Friday and Saturday during the day. The full schedule for the whole weekend can be found online here.

“We have put a lot of work into this event and the relocation to Mattawa and the theme of this festival matches our interests as a family to a T,” said the festival owners. “We attended the event years prior in Powassan and it was always the highlight of our summer. We hope you enjoy the festival as much as we have in years past and for years to come!”

Tickets for Smoke ‘N’ Spurs are available online at www.smokenspurs.com, over the phone by calling Jess at 705-491-5641 or in store at Wilson's Home Hardware or the Mattawa Travel Information Centre (cash only). Knowlton added, “We look forward to welcoming all our friends and neighbours, as well as those from further away, to this unique and fun weekend! See you there!”
