A news release from the West Nipissing Lynx says the team has temporarily suspended team activities after multiple players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The Lynx belong to the non-sanctioned Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League and sit seventh in the 10 team North Division with a record of 8-16-2.

The team has no scheduled games until Friday, January 7th on the road against the Almaguin Spartans so this does provide the team with a bit of time to potentially safely return to play following the holiday break says the release.

"Most individuals affected are currently asymptomatic or exhibiting mild symptoms and the league and team will continue to monitor their well-being. The team is also working with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit in establishing and maintaining protocols.

"The safety of our entire community (players, staff, volunteers, billet families, family members, fans, and West Nipissing residents continue to be our top priority.

"We are extremely saddened that many families’ Christmas and holidays have been impacted by this situation but we do remain grateful that no serious illnesses have come up thus far."

The team continues to encourage the community to remain diligent, get vaccinated, isolate when needed, and take this virus very seriously.

"We have no reason to believe the virus was transmitted outside the Lynx dressing room and/or ice surface at this time. However, if any fans who have attended the Friday, December 17th game vs. Spartans and/or the Saturday, December 18th game vs. Bulls are experiencing any symptoms, please seek a PCR test from your local health unit immediately."
