Voodoos set to hit the ice Friday for training camp

The Powassan Voodoos will be back on the ice Friday evening for the start of their main training camp at the Powassan Sportsplex. 

The Voodoos will hold a Black vs White intrasquad game at 7 p.m. on Friday to start the weekend off.  

The two teams will play another game a 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon followed by a third game at 7 p.m. 

Camp will conclude with a Sunday morning contest at 9 a.m. 

Cottage Cup Showcase

The Powassan Voodoos and Timmins Rock, will see inter-league action in the Cottage Cup Showcase, Aug. 27-29, in Wasaga Beach, Ont.

There they’ll take on competition from the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) and Jungadler Mannheim, a junior side from Germany.

The Voodoos will conclude the pre-season with a home-and-home series with the French River Rapids. The Voodoos will travel to Noelville on Friday, September 6 and then host the Rapids for a 7 p.m. contest at the Powassan Sportsplex on Saturday, September 7 for the club's only home pre-season game. 

The NOJHL’s 2004-25 regular season gets underway September 12. The Voodoos open the season on Friday, September 13th when the Timmins Rock come to town.  

Trappers AAA content

The Voodoos will have a large contingent of former North Bay AAA Trappers on the roster in 2024-25. Along with returners Justin Rousseau, Mason Rotondo and Caleb Dawson, the team will also include Trappers alum Sam Rivet, Anthony Boyes and Cayden Kowal. 

That does not include the other talented current and former Trappers who will be fighting for a roster spot this weekend. 

New Trainer

The Voodoos also added new head athletic trainer Trevor Wing, who will also be the Voodoos video coach.  

Wing, whose daughter Charley Wing just finished off her USports hockey career at Bishop's College, has been a paramedic for more than 20 years. He will work alongside Braedon Hos and utilize hockey knowledge on analytics he acquired taking Sports Management Worldwide online courses.
