The North Bay U18 AAA Trappers will be honouring a well known hockey icon who passed away this summer.

On Sunday, January 12 at 2:30 p.m. the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers will host the Kapuskasing Flyers at Memorial Gardens for the Butch Turcotte Memorial Game with proceeds going to the NoahStrong Foundation.

"Butch was very instrumental in AAA hockey in the city," said Mike Brideau, U18 AAA Trappers manager.

"We thought we had to honour him in a small way and decided this would be the perfect game seeing that Butch was born in Kapuskasing and had an impact on hockey in that great community as well. Butch was an avid supporter of the NoahStrong Foundation so we also thought why not use proceeds from Sunday's game to make a donation in honour of Butch!"

The U18 Trappers sit in top position in the nine-team Great North U18 League with an impressive 19-2-0-1 record.

They are coming off a weekend brought home three points from a two game series up north against the Timmins Majors last weekend.

On Saturday, they dropped a 4-3 decision in a shootout to the Majors at the McIntyre Arena in Timmins.

Martin Brassard and Benjamin Brunton had one goal and one assist each in the shootout loss.

Colton Loiselle had the other Trappers goal.

On Sunday, the Trappers rebounded with a 7-4 win over the Majors.

Brunton led the way with three goals and one assist while Brassard netted two goals and one assist.

Kohen Paquette and Loiselle added singles in the win.

U16s sweep Flyers; fall to Cubs

The North Bay U16 AAA Trappers had a busy weekend sweeping a pair of victories over the Kapuskasing Flyers as the two teams locked horns at the Powassan Sportsplex and North Bay Memorial Gardens last weekend.

On Saturday night the Trappers held off a Flyers comeback with three unanswered third period goals in a 6-2 win.

Defenceman Miguel Brunette led the attack with two goals and one assist for the Trappers. Grady Dale, Owen Smith, Cedar Montreuil, and Zachary Robinson added singles while Graydon Joseph was solid in goal for the Trappers in the win.

On Sunday, the Trappers picked up a matinee 4-2 win at Memorial Gardens.

Owen Smith and Cedar Montreuil had one goal and one assist each in the home win.

Carter McAllister and Ty Dubreuil added singles for the win.

However, on Wednesday night the Trappers allowed five first period goals as the visiting New Liskeard Cubs pulled out a 7-3 win over the North Bay U16 AAA Trappers.

Smith lead the offence again with one goal and one assist.

Carter Brownlee and Zachary Robinson had the other goals in the setback.

U16 AA Trappers affiliate teammates Morgan Curran and Raine Bradley played against each other in the contest, as Bradley made his U16 AAA Trappers debut while Curran dressed for the Cubs.
