U16 Trappers shine, U18 Trappers stumble on road trips to the Soo

U16 AAA Trappers move up in the standings and hit the .500 mark.

The North Bay U16 AAA Trappers are moving up the Great North U18 League standings thanks to a pair of road wins in the Soo over the weekend to bring them back to the .500 mark at 12-12-0-1.  

On Sunday they pulled out a 3-0 win over the Sault Ste. Marie U18 AAA Greyounds. 

Cedar Montreuil, Phillippe Lafontaine and Aiden Duchesne scored first period goals. That's all the scoring they needed as Graydon Joseph was able to shut the door in goal to earn the road shutout. 

On Saturday, the Trappers outscored the Sault Ste. Marie U16 AAA Greyhounds 9-5. 

Grady Dale paced the Trappers offence with three goals and three assists while teammate Ty Dubreuil scored three goals and added two assists in the high-scoring affair. 

Phillippe Lafontaine, Emerik Bray, and Aiden Duchesne had the other goals while Bruce Laronde backstopped the Trappers to the win. 

The wins move the U16 Trappers into 5th place in the 9-team league. 

U18 Trappers Greyhound split

Meantime, the first place North Bay U18 AAA Trappers are coming home with a split during their trip to Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend as well. 

On Sunday, in a penalty-filled affair, the first-place U18 Trappers were upset 6-2 by the Soo U16 AAA Greyhounds. The Hounds broke open a tight 2-1 game after two periods with four third period tallies.  Jackson Culin and Tyler Brunet scored for the Trappers in the setback. 

On Saturday, Ben Brunton's league leading 42nd goal of the season in overtime, gave the visiting U18 Trappers a 5-4 win over the Sault Ste. Marie U18 AAA Greyhounds at the John Rhodes Community Centre. 

Tyler Brunet, Owen Head, Martin Brassard, and Colton Loiselle had the other goals in the overtime win.   

The U18 Trappers coached by Josh Dale, sit firmly on top of the Great North U18 League standings at 22-3-0-1 and 12 points ahead of the second place Sudbury U18 AAA Wolves who have two games in hand.
