Every year teams from across the province compete in Regional qualifiers for the International Silver Stick Tournament, with hopes of advancing to the Finals. This year for the U11 AA division, five teams arrived with hopes of qualifying for the International Silver Stick Finals in Sarnia in January.
Coming off of a strong performance at the Oshawa AAA Challenge two weeks ago, the DESCON Construction North Bay Trappers continued their great play with going 6-0 and capturing the Sudbury Silver Stick Regionals.
The U11 AA North Bay Trappers opened their tournament with a convincing 8-1 win against the Timmins North Stars on Thursday afternoon. On Friday, the Trappers rallied from 2-0 down early, to beating the Nickel City Sons 5-3. The following day saw the Trappers then defeat the Copper Cliff Reds 9-2, to setup their final game of the round robin versus Great Toronto Capitals.
This late-start game saw the Trappers take an early lead, and never look back as they took the game 6-0 and advancing to the playoff round as the first seed.
On Sunday, the Trappers faced the Copper Cliff Reds and were victorious 6-0, setting a rematch against the second seed Nickel City Sons. With one goal in sight, the Trappers defeated the Sons 6-1 and captured the Sudbury Silver Stick Regionals.
The team now sets its sights on the finals January 13-15 in Sarnia, Ontario for the International Silver Stick event.
