After earning a bye into the second round of the GNML playoffs, the Major Midget Trappers started their playoff action with a 6-3 win vs the Timmins Majors in the opening game of the series.
Ryan Mills scored twice in the first period to give the Trappers a 2-1 lead after the first period.
In the second period, the Trappers extended their lead on a pair of goals by Zach Lefebvre and another by defenceman Dylan Bond to take a 5-2 lead after two periods.
Matt Hardwick added another insurance marker to secure the win.
Joel Rainville got the win in goal for the Trappers who finished in top spot in the Great North Midget League's regular season standings.
The Trappers meet the Timmins Majors again on Saturday evening at 7:30pm at Memorial Gardens for game two of the series.
