Major Peewee
The North Bay Hopper Buick/GM Major Peewee AAA Trappers finished off a Sudbury weekend with one win and two ties as they battled the Sudbury Wolves.
The story of the weekend was Wolves goalie Joe Gouchie, who stole the show on Saturday morning in a 0-0 tie. The Trappers spent the majority of the game in the Wolves end but could not solve the small but quick Wolves netminder who finished with 38 saves.
Michael Purkhart was made some key saves as he finished with 10 saves in the shutout.
However, the Trappers offence got going in their second Saturday night at Countryside arena as Anthony Boyes scored a natural hat trick in the opening period as the Trappers cruised to a 6-1 win over the Wolves.
Caleb Dawson, Zach Major, and Mathieu Turgeon supplied the rest of the offence while Justin Robinson got the win in goal.
On Sunday morning, the Trappers again struggled to get the puck by Wolves goalie Joe Gouchie in a 1-1 tie. Zach Major scored the only goal off a rebound from a shot from Nate Gravelle.
The Major Peewee AAA Trappers remain unbeaten in NOHL play with a record of 5-0-2.
“It is nice to be 7 games into the start of a new season and still be undefeated. It says a lot for how our team has already come together,” said Major Peewee AAA Trappers head coach John Couch.
Minor Bantam
The North Bay Assante -Thomson Financial Partners Minor Bantam Trappers finished this past weekend with two wins as they hosted the Timmins North Stars at home in back to back weekends.
In game one of the weekend the teams would finish the first period tied at zero exchanging chances. The second period would prove to be the turning point as the Trappers would strike 3 times off the sticks of 3 different players. The eventual game winner was put home by Thom Sefton with the lone assist on the play going to Chase Thompson.
Cooper Brazeau and Kaedyn Long would add insurance markers.
Kasen Paquette added to the offense to secure a decisive 4-0 win in front of a solid performance in net by Vaughn Thomson collecting the shutout.
Game 2 would prove to be a different story as the Timmins squad hit the ice determined bounce back from a shutout loss.
However, despite a back and forth game the minor bantam AAA Trappers pulled out a 3-2 win.
The first period saw only one goal scored on a back door play to Kaedyn Long who made no mistake courtesy of some nice passing play created by Nolan Masson and Tristan Perry.
That gave the Trappers a 1-0 lead after one period but Timmins would get on the board knotting the game at 1-1 after 2 periods.
The Trappers would eventually regain the lead with a timely shorthanded marker off the stick of Carson Laronde.
Timmins would tie the game up and it would remain tied until the 2:45 mark when Chase Thompson fired a shot past a screened Timmins goalie to seal the win.
Justin Rousseau and Cooper Brazeau had assists on the game winner as Dylan Lemcke was solid in net for the Trapper win.
