The North Bay & District U18 AA Trappers had their season came to a halt on Saturday afternoon.
A Russell Ranger deflection got by goaltender Logan Coates at 3:17 of the first overtime to give the Sudbury U18 AAA Wolves a 4-3 upset win over the #1 seed Trappers in the Great North U18 League tournament of champions taking place in Timmins this weekend.
The Trappers finished first in the regular season and first in the round robin portion of the tourney, going 3-1 before losing in the overtime semifinal contest.
Colton Loiselle, Martin Brassard, and Scott Szcygiel scored for the Trappers in regulation.
The loss ends a season where the Trappers finished 28-3-0-1 in the regular season.
The last North Bay U18 team to win the Great North U18 championship was the Trappers in 2023 when they knocked off the first place Soo Greyhounds 8-5 in the championship game.
