It was another successful weekend for the North Bay & District Girls Hockey Association Junior Lakers with four teams competing in the Nepean Paint It Purple Tournament and one team heading South to Buffalo.
After having three teams bring home medals from Orangeville last weekend, three different Junior Lakers teams brought back two more gold medals and one more silver medal bringing the Junior Lakers medal count for the 2023-24 season to 12 with two and a half more months still to go on the season.
The U11B Junior Lakers skated to two round-robin wins taking down Kanata 3-1 and Timmins 4-1 while dropping one round-robin game 4-3 to Nepean.
After a 2-1-0 round-robin record, the U11B team advanced to the semi-finals, where they ultimately fell 1-0 to the Carleton Place Cyclones.
The U13B team finished the Nepean tournament with a 1-2-1 record picking up a 1-0 win in their last game versus Stittsville.
Buffalo Gold!
The U13A Junior Lakers headed south to take part in the Buffalo Winter Classic.
They finished round-robin play in first place after wins over Orangeville, Amherst, and North York. An undefeated record earned them a spot in the championship game for a re-match with the Orangeville Tigers! The championship game was a hard-fought battle between the two Canadian teams, with the Junior Lakers coming out on top with a 3-1 win to bring the Gold Medal back to Canada.
Nepean Silver
The U15BB Junior Lakers headed to the nations capital to take part in the Nepean Paint It Purple Tournament. They picked up 2 wins in the round robin to advance to the semi-finals where they faced Rochester and earned a 1-0 win to advance to the championship game against Kanata.
The Junior Lakers dropped the championship game to bring a silver medal home.
U18BB Gold!
The U18BB Junior Lakers also headed to Ottawa for the weekend to take part in the Nepean tournament. In round robin play the Junior Lakers went 1-1-1 to earn a spot in the semi-finals against the host Nepean Wildcats, the Lakers skated to a 4-0 win to earn a place in the championship game.
In the gold medal match the the Lakers went on to down Kanata 4-1 to bring the Championship banner back to North Bay.
