Local Norsemen and Valkyries club do well in Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championship

In the male 67 kilo class, fifteen-year-old Jack Ogletree broke all his personal records and finished with 67 kilos in the snatch and 80 in the clean and jerk for a 147 kilo total.

Last weekend the Ontario Weightlifting Association played host to the 2024 Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championship. The contest, held in Scarborough, was spread across three days and featured 173 lifters from seven provinces. The local Norsemen and Valkyries club had five lifters as members of the Ontario contingent.

In the male 67 kilo class, fifteen-year-old Jack Ogletree broke all his personal records and finished with 67 kilos in the snatch and 80 in the clean and jerk for a 147 kilo total. The ESC Algonquin student finished in 10th place.

Griffin Lamarche, a 17 year old Chippewa Secondary student, lifted in the 81 kilo division. Lamarche made 98 kilos in the snatch and 125 in the clean and jerk for a total of 223 and a 7th place finish.

Later in the contest, Parker Schlueting competed in the male 89 kilo class and was able to make personal bests in both lifts. The 19 year old Canadore Avionics student hoisted 92 kilos in the snatch and 117 in the clean and jerk for a 219 total. Like his teammate Lamarche, Parker finished 7th.

Anna Moore of the Valkryies was entered in female 59 kilo category, the largest grouping of the entire contest. The fifteen year old St. Joseph-Scollard Hall student made 50 kilos in the snatch and 55 in the clean and jerk for a total of 105 and 18th place.

Seventeen year old Abby Champagne put in an impressive series of lifts in the female +87 kilo category. The ESC Algonquin student did 59 kilos in the snatch and 77 kilos in the clean and jerk. Champagne won the bronze medal in her division.
